Ruff Kid


Masautso Nkhoma better known by his stage name Ruff Kid is a Zambian hip hop and Christian hip hop recording artist and 2012 best international act winner at the Beffta Awards. He debuted in 2000 with his single Wekatemwikwa. Ruff Kid is also the chief executive officer of his own label imprint, Kang'ono Records. He claims that the name Ruff Kid depicts his background.

Life and career

Born in Lusaka and raised on the Cooperbelt Ruff Kid's career initially started in 2000. In 2014 Ruff Kid launched a controversial album The Naked Truth.
The album received a lot of criticism over the cover photo. At the launch of his album he made dramatic entrance when he came out of a casket received a lot of mixed reactions from his fans but however he was defended by Petersen Zagaze saying that "A primitive mind is no place to get advice...." he went on say “Everyday you watch movies with people in coffins, some even acting as Satanists, presidents, bishops, killers, sex workers, pilots, ghosts etc and you don’t complain, call names or conclude, You see Ruff Kid do a coffin stunt stage entrance you talk shallowmind talk. Why? Is it because it wasn’t Ukwa in a Nigerian movie or Nicolas Cage in the coffin?".
After the successful launch of The Naked Truth, said: “I feel amazed by how some people can be shallow-minded and go to the extent of saying things such as Illuminati.”
He signed with Effycom Productions in the UK in 2018.
