Royal Marines Vanguard Strike Company


The Royal Marines Vanguard Strike Company is an experimental strike company of the Royal Marines. The company is currently, as of 21 July 2020, forming and preparing to have its first major deployment in 2021.

History

A select group of Royal Marines are to make up a new unit that will "shape" the future of amphibious United Kingdom operations. This new 'Vanguard Strike Company' is two be composed of more than 150 Royal Marines and British Army personnel by Autumn 2020. The company will have access to "game-changing technology and weaponry".

Role

The company is forming as part of the Royal Marines' ongoing Future Commando Force programme, which will overhaul how the marines operate. The navy said company personnel will work in "small, versatile teams" tailored for the mission they are on, delivering "a more agile and lethal capability". The service added the creation of the unit is "returning commando forces to their roots".
The new company and its subsequent teams will always be at high-readiness, as a capable forward contingency force at the core of the Royal Navy's Littoral Response Groups. The new company is due to go on its maiden deployment in mid-2021 following further trials later this year.

Uniform

The company is due to be the first to wear the new Royal Marines uniform which was announced and presented in June 2020. The new uniform is a new breathable variation produced by the US company Crye Precision. The company will also be equipped with the famous green beret.
