Roland Got


Roland Got was a Chinese American character actor who worked in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s.

Biography

Roland was born in San Francisco, California, to William Got and Lilly Leong. His mother was a seamstress, and his dad worked as a shirt manufacturer. The family later moved to Los Angeles, where Roland and his siblings attended Jefferson High School. In L.A., Roland—a talented artist—also played on a semi-pro football team.
In 1937, he got his big break when he was cast in the 1937 film The Good Earth. He would later appear in over a dozen more films after training at the Motion Picture Academy. He married Grace Chew, and the pair had a child together. His film career came to an end during World War II, when he was drafted and joined the U.S. Army.
After the war, he began working as an insurance salesman. Sadly, he died at the age of 32 when he fell off a ferry in the San Francisco Bay.
