Roe Street, Perth

Roe Street in Northbridge in the city of Perth is the road immediately to the north of the area of the former railway marshalling yards that were to the west of the Perth railway station. It had a number of factories located on the street, the Michelides Tobacco Factory being an example.
For a considerable length of time in the twentieth century it was associated in the popular imagination in Western Australia as the location of brothels in Perth.
Since changes of regulation of prostitution at different stages the brothels have long gone, and Roe Street has become a re-development site and is within Northbridge, rather than the city.
In 2008 the Perth City Link plan to remove the vestiges of the railway yard and lower the Fremantle railway line created a large space of redevelopment.
