Rodrigo Garcia (politician)


Rodrigo Garcia is a Brazilian attorney, entrepreneur, realtor and politician, member of the Democrats. He was elect State Deputy elect for three consecutives legislatures, President of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, and Federal Deputy. Garcia is, currently, the Vice Governor of São Paulo, elect in the 2018 election, and also State Secretary of Government.

Career

Garcia licensed from the Legislative Assembly to take office as Municipal Secretary of Modernization, Management and Debureaucracy of São Paulo between 2008 and 2010. In April 2010, he returned to the Assembly to resume his work as Deputy. He is National Vice President of DEM and Secretary-General of the party in the state of São Paulo.
Rodrigo had a partnership with Gilberto Kassab, but severed ties with the then Mayor, refusing the invitation to join the Social Democratic Party, party founded by Kassab. In May 2011, Garcia was invited by Governor Geraldo Alckmin to be State Secretary of Economic Development, Science and Technology of São Paulo. On 3 April 2014, he left the Secretariat to return to the Chamber.
In the 2014 elections, in the 55th Legislature, Rodrigo was the 5th most voted candidate for Federal Deputy in São Paulo, garnering 336,151 votes. On 1 February 2015, he assumed his fifth term. After that, he licensed from his seat to be State Secretary of Housing in the new Alckmin administration. On 17 April 2016, Garcia voted for the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff.
In the 2018 election, he ran as Vice Governor alongside João Doria, who was elect in the second round.
