Rizwan Ahmed (civil servant)


Rizwan Ahmed is a Pakistani civil servant who serves in BPS-22 grade as the Maritime Secretary of Pakistan, in office since April 2019. He did his two-year Master in Public Administration from Harvard University and joined the Pakistan Administrative Service in 1988. He was promoted to the rank of Federal Secretary in 2017. He holds the rare honour in civil bureaucracy of having served as head of four profitable state-owned organisations under the Government of Pakistan.
Rizwan is the son of Jamil Ahmed, the former twice-elected Mayor of Hyderabad; and is the son-in-law of former FSC Chief Justice Haziqul Khairi. He first came to the fore when he saved more than PKR 7 billion of the national exchequer through a sweeping anti-corruption drive and efficient commodity financing operation during his tenure as Chairman TCP.

Career

Rizwan Ahmed is a grade 22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service. He joined the government service in 1988. He is currently serving as the Maritime Secretary of Pakistan.
He has previously served as Chairman of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Chairman of Trading Corporation of Pakistan, Additional Secretary for the federal divisions of Establishment and Cabinet, Managing Director of Pakistan Security Printing Corporation and as Managing Director of ENAR Petrotech.
Prior to joining the federal government, Rizwan served in the provincial governments of Sindh and Punjab. He served as the Health Secretary of Sindh where he spearheaded anti-dengue efforts in the province and tackled the severe flood crisis in multiple districts of Sindh.
Other assignments that Rizwan held at the provincial level include Secretary to Governor of Sindh, Secretary General Administration to Government of Sindh, Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad District, Administrator Bahawalpur Municipal Corporation, and Assistant Commissioner of Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.
