Richard More (Archdeacon of Exeter)
Richard More was Archdeacon of Exeter from 13 January 1505 to 1515.Origins
He was a younger son of John Moore of Moorhayes in the parish of Cullompton in Devon, by his wife Elizabeth Clivedon, a daughter and co-heiress of John Clivedon of Willand, Devon. A descendant of his elder brother Morris Moore of Moorhayes, by his wife Syffrells Bonvylle, daughter of John Bonvylle by his wife Alice Dennis was John Moore, Bishop of Norwich and Bishop of Ely, grandson of Rev. John Moore a clergyman of Puritan views and an author of pamphlets against enclosures;, he was the grandson of Sir John Moore of Moorhayes, knighted at the Palace of Westminster by King Edward VI in 1549; by his wife Katherine Pomeroy, a daughter of Sir Thomas Pomeroy, feudal baron of Berry Pomeroy in Devon, who in 1547 sold Berry Pomeroy Castle, Deer park and manor to Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, Lord Protector of England from 1547 until 1549 during the minority of his nephew, King Edward VI, and eldest brother of Queen Jane Seymour, the third wife of King Henry VIII.Career
He was appointed Archdeacon of Exeter on 13 January 1505 and as Treasurer of Exeter Cathedral on 24 May 1515. He died on 20 February 1522. His monument survives in Exeter Cathedral.
