Richard G. Hartley


Richard Gordon Hartley was an Australian civil engineer and mining and engineering industry historian.
He was born in the United Kingdom, on 30 June 1939, and died in Perth, Western Australia in 2016.
He attained an honours degree from Murdoch University in 1992 focusing upon gold mining in the early twentieth century Goldfields of Western Australia.. In 1998, he completed his PhD at the same university looking at the changes in technology in more detail.
His work on the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme and Mundaring Weir, published in 2007, has been the most thorough work on the scheme, that coincided with the centenary of the scheme. It involved extensive archival research, and extensive interviews.
