Renmore


Renmore is a suburb of Galway City, Ireland, situated approximately 2 km to the east of the city. St Oliver Plunkett Church is located beside the primary school. Lough Atalia lies between Renmore and the city, which can be crossed using the public path beside the railway line. The primary school in Renmore is widely called Scoil Chaitriona the area also has an all Irish school named Gaelscoil Dara.
Renmore is one of the widest suburbs of Galway city, running east along the coast and south of Dublin Road, from the shore of Lough Atalia on its west side to Lurgan Park on its east. The area houses approximately 5,000 people and includes Ballyloughaun beach, which also has camping facilities.
Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology is one of the larger employers in the area.
Renmore is also home to Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa, a base of the Irish Army's Southern Brigade. The barracks - called "Renmore Barracks" under British rule when it was base to the Connaught Rangers and still widely known as such - is the base of the 1st Infantry Battalion and is located at the end of Renmore Road. The Department of Defence is also based in the area.
There is also a private hospital called the Bon Secours.

Renmore Panto

The Renmore Panto is an annual Pantomime which began in 1979 and the first performance was on the stage in the Jes Hall. The idea for the Renmore panto began with Mary Barrett who loved the community spirit of the area and the involvement of the people of Renmore in the project.
