Radio Invicta (London pirate station)
Radio Invicta was a pirate radio station that broadcast in London from 1970 to 1984. Most of the time, Radio Invicta operated on VHF on 92.4 MHz. It used the slogans "Soul over London" and "Europe's first and only all soul station". Radio Invicta was the first UK station to play only soul music.
A great many of the DJs on the soul, funk, and jazz-funk scenes at the time played on the station, including Froggy, Chris Hill, Steve Chandler, and Tony Johns. The station also would launch the careers of Steve Walsh, Gilles Peterson, and Pete Tong.
In 1974 up until 1977, the station broadcast solely on bank holidays. Eventually, it began broadcasting every Sunday night.
