Poets who have held the title include Pierre de Ronsard, Charles Marie René Leconte de Lisle, Paul Verlaine, Stéphane Mallarmé, Léon Dierx, Paul Fort, Jules Supervielle, Jean Cocteau, Maurice Carême, and Léopold Sédar Senghor.
