Prince Friedrich Ferdinand of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg was a prince of the House of Glücksburg.

Parents

Friedrich Ferdinand was the fourth child and youngest son of Prince Albert of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and his first wife, Countess Ortrud of Ysenburg and Büdingen.

Marriage and issue

Friedrich Ferdinand married Duchess Anastasia of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, youngest daughter of Frederick Francis IV, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and his wife Princess Alexandra of Hanover and Cumberland, on 1 September 1943 at Willigrad bei Schwerin. Friedrich Ferdinand and Anastasia had four daughters:
Prince Friedrich served in the German Heer during World War II. He served as general staff officer and rose to the rank of major by early 1945. On February 10, 1945 he was placed in command of Panzergrenadier-Regiment 40, a unit of the 17th Panzer Division on the Eastern Front. He commanded the regiment until the capitulation of Germany on May 8, 1945. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on February 22, 1945 and was promoted to the rank of Oberstleutnant shortly afterwards.
