Pop Song is the first single by the Drugs. It was released in 2000 and earned the Drugs some positive press. It has been described as "addictive". A live version was released on The Only Way Is Up. Its synth intro is the basis of track 1, "Sucked In!", on Music's in Trouble. The cover bears resemblance to that of Savage Garden's eponymous album.
Music video
The music video begins with the Drugs entering a studio in their police outfits and beginning to play the song before cutting to a black and white fourth-generation Toyota Hiace pulling into a construction site where the band 4 Boyz is singing. The Drugs then get out weapons and start running. 4 Boyz then get scared as the Drugs power up their weapons and chase them. Ian Baddley then stabs a member of 4 Boyz with a pitchfork and fake blood appears on the screen. It then cuts to Harry Snow and David Live hiding in a forest where the band Boy Nature is located. Snow and Live then come out of hiding and attack Boy Nature. It then cuts to the band The White Boys on a beach singing the middle eight. When the lyric "Isn't this just the middle EIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" is screamed, it cuts to Ian Baddley pouring gas over the White Boys and then throwing a lit zippo lighter into the gas. He then fans the flames and shrugs before it cuts to the Drugs returning to their studio and removing their overalls revealing the police outfits from the beginning. The rest of the video is just archival footage of the Drugs playing live until after the fadeout of the audio, where it cuts to two members of Boy Nature lying down in the forest. One of the members takes a piece of flesh from the other member, eats it and gives another piece to its owner, who eagerly eats it. The first member then eats another piece of flesh as the disclaimer "No actual boybands were harmed in the making of this video" appears on the screen. The members then lie down again as the video fades to black, while the disclaimer stays past the fadeout of the video.
