History

The Philippine Science High School Central Visayas Campus started with one academic building and 25 scholars, with six teachers and six administrative staff. The Officer-In-Charge Campus Director at that time was Dr. Pedrito G. Padilla, who helped in setting the foundations of the school. The school started its operations on June 29, 2006, while formal classes started on June 30, 2006. Dr. Florita A. Pontillas, a resident of Argao, Cebu succeeded Dr. Padilla making her the first Campus Director until August 2013. From September 2013 to July 2017, Dr. Warren D. Cordeta of Tacloban City, Leyte was the campus director. From November 2017 to present, the campus director is Dr. Rachel Luz V. Rica.
During the opening ceremonies in 2006, the scholars, who were housed in the Kumazawa residence and Aballe Apartelle due to the lack of dormitories, went up the mountain with their parents to witness the first opening ceremonies of the school. Many political personalities were there, like Simeon Kintanar, former congressman of the second district of Cebu and Wilfredo Caminero, former mayor of the municipality of Argao, Cebu.
The school is currently on its eleventh year of operation. The school started with the following sections per year level. For the three sections of the first year high school: Quartz, Zircon and Bauxite; second year level: Edelweiss, Freesia and Periwinkle; third year level: Helium, Krypton and Xenon; fourth year level: Hadron and Lepton. Later, the names of the two sections of the fourth year level were changed to accommodate the three sections due to the increase in enrollees. The names of the three sections of the fourth year level were changed to Gluon, Photon and Graviton. With the addition of the K-12 curriculum, new sections have been added for Grade 11 and 12: Cluster A, Cluster B, and Cluster C which were designated for compulsory, non-STEM subjects such as Social Science, English and Filipino.
From 2006 to 2012, Ms. Arlene C. Agosto was the designated chief of the Curriculum and Instruction Services Division. Mr. Joseph P. Hortezuela then succeeded her from 2012 to 2015, and followed Ms. Sherry P. Ramayla from 2015 - 2017. Presently, Ms. Arlene C. Agosto is again appointed in the position with its modified name as the chief of the Curriculum and Instruction Division. The usual gauge of the academic performance of the campus after four years of operation is the University of the Philippines College Admission Test performance of the current fourth year students. The school has already produced four UPCAT oblation scholars in a span of 6 academic years. The first oblation scholar was Ariel Raye Rica of the second batch. The fourth batch produced two oblation scholars namely: Lowelyn Anne Itang and James Christian Relampagos. Weand Ybañez of the sixth batch was also the oblation scholar of the last batch of examinees of UPCAT before the introduction of the K-12 curriculum.
