Peter Kavanagh (Irish politician)


Peter Kavanagh is an Irish broadcaster, language activist and politician. Kavanagh is a broadcaster for Raidió na Life and a co-founder of Pop-Up Gaeltacht, a project that encourages Irish speakers to socialise in public, normalising Irish language-use in non-traditional settings. He tweets in both Irish and English.

Political career

The Green Party spokesperson for the Irish language, Kavanagh was elected to South Dublin County Council in the 2019 local election representing his native Clondalkin.
Shortly afterwards, Kavanagh contested the Dáil Éireann by-election in Dublin Mid-West, where he took 6.4% of the first preference votes but was not elected.
Kavanagh was the Green Party candidate for Dublin Mid-West at the 2020 Irish general election, but was not elected.
