Pesotum, Illinois


Pesotum is a village in Champaign County, Illinois, United States. The population was 551 at the 2010 census.
The village was named after Pesotum, a Native American warrior in the Battle of Fort Dearborn.

At the 2000 census there were 521 people, 218 households, and 153 families living in the village. The population density was 938.0 people per square mile. There were 221 housing units at an average density of 397.9 per square mile. The racial makeup of the village was 99.04% White, 0.38% Asian, and 0.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.19%.
Of the 218 households 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% were non-families. 26.6% of households were one person and 18.3% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.87.
The age distribution was 23.4% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% 65 or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 males.
