Pericchedi


The Pericchedis were an ancient ruling clan in Andhra. Pericchedis built Bezawada off the river Krishna in 626 and another capital in Kollipaka, establishing themselves for nine centuries there.

History

The Paricchedis were initially the samantas of the Chalukyas. According to V. Sakunthala, the Pericheddis originated from social groups such as the besta and peasant groups of the Shudra varna. Paricchedis were staunch patrons of Hindu Dharma in contrast to the Chalukyas, who initially were patrons of Jainism.
