Pat Hughes (lawyer)


Patrick Hughes is president of the Liberty Justice Center, a public interest law firm at the center of the U.S. Supreme Court case Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Council 31.
Hughes received his bachelor of science in accounting from Marquette University and his law degree from DePaul University College of Law. He has been an attorney since 1994, specializing in private and public interest complex litigation. In his role at the Center, Hughes leads a team of constitutional litigators who focus on cases to limit the political influence of labor unions. He also is co-founder of the Illinois Opportunity Project and Upstream Ideas, LLC.
In 2010, Hughes ran for United States Senate, finishing second to Senator Mark Kirk in the Republican primary for the seat vacated by President Barack Obama. Hughes has been featured in numerous local and national media outlets including Fox News, MSNBC, The Hill, the Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post and The New York Times.
