Pärnu Postimees


Pärnu Postimees is a newspaper published in Estonia. It is one of the oldest papers in the country.

History

The newspaper was first published on 5 June 1857. Its initial title was Perno Postimees ehk Näddalaleht. The founder was Johan Woldemar Jannsen. He was an architecture by profession and is described as the father or Estonian journalism.
The paper aimed at encouraging Estonians and at publishing Estonian literary work. In 1863 the paper moved to Derpt and was renamed as Eesti Postimees.
