Outside Summer Festivals Tour


Outside Summer Festivals Tour was a concert tour by David Bowie. Following on from the Outside Tour which ended in February 1996, the tour opened at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan on 4 June 1996. With a slimmed-down tour band from the previous tour, this tour visited to Japan, Russia and a string of performances on the European Summer festivals circuit.

Background

The Kremlin Palace Concert Hall performance on 18 June 1996 was recorded and a 50-minute broadcast was later shown on Russian Television. Other television coverage included the entire 22 June Loreley Festival performance on German TV and excerpts from the Phoenix Festival performance on 22 July broadcast on British TV with BBC Radio broadcasting a six-song selection from the performance. The Tel Aviv and Balingen dates were both broadcast on FM radio in their respective countries.
Wardrobe for Bowie and his band on this tour was designed by celebrated British designer Alexander McQueen.
