History

The church site has been occupied for about 1000 years. The original church existed during the 12th century. The second church building was built around the year 1220 and it existed until 1890 when it was torn down to build a bigger building. The present building is a stone, neo-gothic church that was built in a long church style in 1893 under the direction of architect Carl Julius Bergstrøm.
Most of the gray stone came from Munklia in Orkdal. The church seats about 450 people.
