Operation Vaksince


Operation Vaksince was a military operation launched by the Macedonian security forces against Albanian insurgents belonging to the NLA, which was at the time launching a campaign of guerrilla attacks against facilities of the Macedonian Government, the Macedonian Police force, and the Macedonian Armed Forces.
On the 25th May 2001 troops belonging to the Macedonian Army and Macedonian Police force began Operation Vaksince against insurgent forces in the region of Kumanovo Karadak, in northeast of Macedonia. The operation only lasted a single day and ended with a Macedonian victory against the Albanian insurgents.
During the course of the operation the Macedonian troops were able to recapture the village of Matejce from the insurgents. Additionally the villages of Vaksince and Slupcane, were severely damaged by artillery bombardments and helicopter attacks. These villages were also recaptured by members of the security forces.
