One-Eyed Jack (band)

One-Eyed Jack is an American Rock
band formed in 1991 in Rutherford, NJ. The band was known for their
live improvisational performances
associated with the new wave of psychedelic bands in the 1990’s called jam bands. The band was featured in Dean Budnick’s Guide to Jambands.

History

The band gained notoriety in the early 1990’s by performing in many New York City counter-culture clubs such as the Wetlands Preserve, CBGB and
Nightingales.
Their discography includes four studio albums and one live album all
released under Go-Nads Productions. The band charted on Jambands.com's Top 50 Jam Bands in 2002.
In 2005 the band was featured on a DVD released by Jam-Cam Chronicles
which showcased live performances of the band and interview commentary
about Jerry Garcia moments.
The band was featured on FOX TV’s America’s Most Wanted
with Grateful Dead member Bob Weir for an
episode on the murder of Kristen Laurite, who was murdered on August 25, 2000 by Ronald James Ward. Kristen was a fan of the music,
and the band hosted several benefits related to safety in travel in her memory.
For decades, the band showcased original music heavily influenced by the
mix of psychedelic sounds like the Grateful Dead
and guitar harmonies reminiscent of the
Allman Brothers Band. In
addition to the band’s powerhouse of sound was the heartfelt and soulful
lyrics of Joe Boris, described as "Dylanesque" by Relix Magazine.
The band went on a hiatus in 2008 and reformed as the Jacks, without
founding member Joe Boris. The band’s sound engineer, Jason Dermer
joined the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ
providing sound for the Summer Stage
Concert Series.
On November 1, 2015 the band reformed to perform their reunion show,
hosted by Sam Cutler at the Cutting Room.
On March 29 and 30th of 2019,
One-Eyed Jack hosted the Furthermore Benefit at W.O.W. Hall
which supported the rebuilding of the
Further Bus made famous by counterculture
icon, Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters.
One-Eyed Jack toured up to 2020.
