Olivier Faure
Olivier Faure is a French politician. He was head of the New Left group, the parliamentary group formed around the Socialist Party in the National Assembly, from December 2016 to April 2018. He is also the First Secretary of the French Socialist Party.
In the election to lead the socialist group, Faure won by 137 to 120 against Guillaume Bachelay and succeeded Bruno Le Roux, who was appointed to the Ministry of the Interior. Faure was a candidate for the leadership of the Socialist Party at the Aubervilliers Congress in 2018, and after securing a near-majority of support in the first round, was elected unopposed after the withdrawal of his nearest opponent, Stéphane Le Foll.
