Old Courthouse, Coleraine

The Old Courthouse is a former judicial facility on Castlerock Road in Coleraine, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

History

The building, which was designed by Stewart Gordon in the Neoclassical style, was completed in 1852. The building was originally used as a facility for dispensing justice but, following the implementation of the Local Government Act 1898, which established county councils in every county, it also became a meeting place for Londonderry County Council. The county council moved to County Hall in Coleraine in 1970. After the judicial functions of the courthouse were transferred to modern facilities in Mountsandel Road, the old courthouse closed in 1985. It was subsequently converted for leisure use and re-opened as a public house in 2000.
