Nomi Prins


Nomi Prins is an American author, journalist, and public speaker who writes about Wall Street and the American economy.
Prins worked as a managing director at Goldman Sachs for 2 years and as a Senior Managing Director at Bear Stearns for 7 years, and was a senior strategist at Lehman Brothers and an analyst at the Chase Manhattan Bank. Prins is known for her book All the Presidents' Bankers in which she explores over a century of close relationships between the 19 Presidents from Teddy Roosevelt through Barack Obama and the key bankers of their day based on original archival documents. Prins also received recognition for her whistleblower book, It Takes a Pillage: Behind the Bonuses, Bailouts, and Backroom Deals from Washington to Wall Street, for her views on the U.S. economy, for her published spending figures on federal programs and initiatives related to the 2008 bailout, and for her advocacy for the reinstatement of the Glass–Steagall Act and regulatory reform of the financial industry. She was also a member of Senator Bernie Sanders panel of top economic experts to advise on Federal Reserve reform.

Personal

Nomi Prins was born in upstate New York, the oldest child in her family. Her father worked for IBM after having taught at the local college as a Mathematics professor. She received her Bachelor degree in Mathematics from State University of New York at Purchase with a minor in music and a Master in Science in Statistics from New York University.

Career in finance

During her last year, Prins worked part-time at Chase Manhattan bank, which she joined full-time after graduation as an analyst. She subsequently moved to two other firms - Bear Stearns in London for seven years and finally at Goldman Sachs for two years, after which she quit Wall Street.
She has presented to numerous venues including the Federal Reserve, International Monetary Fund and World Bank Annual conference. There she covered the topic of how to get banks to better serve the real economy.

She is a monthly contributor to Tom Dispatch where she offers analysis on the connections between Wall Street and Washington. Currently, she is working on her latest book that will focus on the movement of money by central banks to influence global markets and economic policy in the domestic and global scale. The Nation Books holds the worldwide English rights to the forthcoming publication.
