Negar Mortazavi


Negar Mortazavi is an Iranian-American journalist covering Iran in English and Persian. She writes, reports and tweets on Iran extensively and is a frequent commentator on Iran at MSNBC, BBC, PRI, New York Times, Aljazeera, Huffington Post, and international outlets across the world in Lebanon, Iraq, Israel, Turkey, Switzerland, and Japan.
Mortazavi was born and raised in Iran and moved to the US in 2002 to continue her studies. She has a Master of Arts from Brandeis University and a Bachelor of Arts from University of Massachusetts. She worked as a TV presenter at Voice of America Persian where she hosted a daily hour-long interactive show that discussed current affairs with Iranians across the world.

NIAC affiliation

She started serving National Iranian American Council as director of Persian & new media in 2014.
In 2020, three Republican senators Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz and Mike Braun claimed that NIAC organization has violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act since they are "amplifying Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran| regime propaganda in the United States". They requested the US Attorney-General William Barr to carry an investigation on this matter.
