Nanjemoy Formation


The Nanjemoy Formation is a geologic formation in Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. It preserves fossils dating back to the Paleogene period. Specifically, it dates back to the Ypresian stage of the Eocene epoch. It's known for containing Otodus obliquus and Carcharocles aksuaticus, as well as various other shark and ray species. Crocodilian, snake, turtle, mammal, and bird remains have all been found in this formation.
