Murat Şahin


Murat Şahin is a retired Turkish football goalkeeper.

Career

Şahin began his career in Göztepe Hilalspor where he was explored by scouts. At the age of 17, he had been transferred by Fenerbahçe and turned as professional when he was 18 years old. He spelled 7 seasons in Sarı Kanaryalar until transferred to Konyaspor whilst 1998/99 mid-season transfer window. He also loaned by eastern Turkey club Vanspor during his time in Fenerbahçe.
After his periods in several clubs in Turkish League, he moved back to Istanbul by way of his transfer to Beşiktaş in 2004/2005 pre-season transfer market as an experienced keeper.

Uche Incident

During his time in Fenerbahçe, he was dramatically the 2nd keeper after Rüştü. In 1999/00 season, he had a decent chance to play in line-up against Beşiktaş after Rüştü cut his hand just before the match. Thus, he had his place in Istanbul derby, but regrettably, there happened a very unfortunate moment that Şahin had broken his team-mate Uche's leg during he acted for gathering the ball in the box.

One legged keeper

He had his most notable performance on the 29th match day of Turkish League on 22 April 2007 against Antalyaspor, in which he covered up the 1st keeper of the team Runje to be suspended before the match. Şahin showed some solid spectacle as he did not let the opponent to score, especially in the second half; although he had a serious injury on his knee ligaments. The final score was 1–0 for Beşiktaş as the team had crucial 3 points to ensure the Champions League participation for next season.
Şahin was transferred by southern Turkey club Gaziantepspor during the transfer window of Turkish League 2007/08 season.
