Monique Péan is an American fine jewelry designer based in New York City.

History

Monique Péan launched her eponymous environmentally friendly fine jewelry line known for its one-of-a-kind designs, avant-garde style and unique materials, including sustainable fossilized walrus ivory and fossilized dinosaur bone, in 2006. Monique Péan strives to raise awareness of art, culture and global environmental issues through design. Proceeds from sales contribute to global philanthropic organizations such as charity: water, which provides clean drinking water and basic sanitation to people in developing nations.
In 2009, Péan moved her brand to a studio in Manhattan's Meatpacking District. In 2014, she moved her studio to a three-level space in SoHo, with a dedicated space for private appointments for the brand's growing bespoke business. Her designs have been worn by Michelle Obama, Natalie Portman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kerry Washington, Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Watts, Gisele Bündchen, Lupita Nyong'o, Emma Watson, Jennifer Lawrence, Karlie Kloss, Constance Jablonski, Jessica Chastain, Liya Kebede, Joan Smalls, Bérénice Bejo and Rachel Weisz.

Biography

Péan was raised outside of Washington D.C. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Political Science and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2003. Before launching her jewelry line in 2006, she worked as an analyst on the fixed income desk at Goldman Sachs in New York City. Monique Péan has guest lectured at Harvard Business School, the University of Pennsylvania, Illinois Institute of Art and Parsons The New School for Design. She is a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Awards

In 2009, Péan was named runner-up for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. In the same year, she was the recipient of the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award. In 2010 Péan won the CFDA Lexus Eco Challenge for Sustainable Design, and in 2011 she was the recipient of the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund and Tiffany & Co. development grant. In 2011, Fast Company named Monique Péan one of the “10 Most Innovative Fashion Companies”. Monique was named one of Marie Claire's “Women on Top Awards: The Transformers” in 2012 and one of Fast Company's “Most Creative People in Business 1000” in 2014. She received the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Kate Spade Marketing Grant in 2013, enabling her to launch her first advertising campaign in the September 2014 issue of Vogue Magazine. In 2015, Monique Péan was selected as the Best Jewellery by Wallpaper in their February Design Awards issue.
