Mongla Export Processing Zone


Mongla Export Processing Zone or Mongla EPZ is one of the eight export processing zones under BEPZA.
It's located in Mongla which is adjacent to Port of Mongla. Like any of the export processing zones, Mongla EPZ is headed by a General Manager. Mongla Export Processing Zone is governed by BEPZA which is one of the wings of the Prime Minister's Office. The current chairman of BEPZA is Major General Md Habibur Rahman Khan.

History

Mongla Export Processing Zone was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina on May 23, 1998. The zone has received investment from 29 companies as of 2015, of which 16 have gone into production and rest are under construction. The zone has faced criticism for having some environmentally harmful industries. Mongla EPZ performance has been below government expectations.
