Millaroo, Queensland


Millaroo is a small town and locality in the Shire of Burdekin in Queensland, Australia.

Geography

The place is located about 100 km south-east of Townsville, ca. 50 km inland from the Coral Sea. It is a sugarcane growing area with underground water supplies to irrigate crops.

History

The name Millaroo comes from Millaroo Creek, which in turn was recorded by surveyor Robert Abbott in 1895.
Millaroo Post Office opened on 1 July 1955 and closed in 1972.
At the 2011 census, Millaroo had a population of 200.

Education

Millaroo State School caters for Prep-Year 6 students and is located 70 kilometres South-West of Ayr, North Queensland. The school services the rural townships of Millaroo and Dalbeg and the surrounding areas. The school opened on 19 July 1954.
