Merton Civic Centre

Merton Civic Centre is a municipal building in London Road, Morden, London. It is the headquarters of the London Borough of Merton.

History

The site selected had previously been occupied by a public house known as "The Crown". The new building, which was designed by A. Green in the Modernist style, was developed by Bernard Sunley & Sons and opened as "Crown House" in 1962. The 15-storey building, which is high, was initially used as commercial offices and for postal sorting. Many of the departments of the London Borough of Merton, which had previously been located at Wimbledon Town Hall, moved into the building in 1985 and, after a new council chamber and library extension had been built, it became the new Civic Centre for Merton in 1990.
