Melville, KwaZulu-Natal


Melville is a seaside resort village on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Geography

Melville is located halfway between Port Shepstone Central and Hibberdene about 12 kilometers between both areas.
Despite being a main place rather than a sub place of Port Shepstone in the 2011 census, it is considered an extension and suburb of Port Shepstone and is the northernmost extension of the town.
It is surrounded by Sunwich Port in the south and Pumula in the north. It is located on the R102 to Port Shepstone Central Business District, Hibberdene and Durban. The Koshwana River mouth is located in Melville.

Beaches

Melville has two beaches in its vicinity, Melville Beach and Banana Beach. Banana Beach with its large rock pools is located to the south and Melville Beach to the north.

Fishing

Melville is an ideal fishing spot that offers many rock pools.

Caravan Parks & Resorts

In addition to its two beaches, it includes the Ilanga Resort & Caravan Park, Lalanathi Caravan & Camping Park and the Banana Beach Holiday Resort.

The nearest police station is the Southport Police Station and further police stations are the Hibberdene and Port Shepstone police stations. The nearest hospitals are the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital and Hibiscus Private Hospital in Port Shepstone Central and the Dunstal Farell Hospital near Hibberdene. The nearest shopping centres are also in Port Shepstone Central or Hibberdene
