Mehta Kalu


Mehta Kalu, formally Kalyan Chand Das Bedi, alias Kalidas Chandarana was the father of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder and first guru of Sikhism.
From the Bedi clan of the Khatri caste, he served as the patwari of crop revenue for the village of Talwandi in the employment of the landlord, Rai Bular Bhatti. His wife was Tripta and he had one other child, his daughter Nanaki who became a spiritual figure in her own right.
Originally a Hindu, Kalu later became a disciple of the Guru, his son.
