May Menassa


May Menassa was a Lebanese author, critic and translator.

Early life

Menassa was born in Beirut in 1939. She studied French literature prior to pursuing a career in journalism. Since 1969, she was a critic for the Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar.
Menassa is the author of several novels and children's books. She has also translated French literary works into Arabic. Her novel Anta'il al-Ghubar wa Amsh was shortlisted for the inaugural Arabic Booker Prize.
