Maurene Goo


Maurene Goo is an American author of young adult fiction, best known for her novel I Believe in A Thing Called Love. Her books have been translated into seven languages.

Personal life

Goo was born and raised in Glendale, U.S., and she studied communication at UC San Diego. She has a master's in publishing, writing, and literature from Emerson College. Prior to publishing her debut novel, Since You Asked, she worked in publishing. Goo is of Korean descent.

''I Believe in A Thing Called Love''

Her sophomore novel, I Believe in A Thing Called Love, about a socially awkward Korean American teen who decides to follow a K-Drama formula to get a boy to fall in love with her, has received the most critical acclaim of all her publications so far. It received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Reviews, and landed on the best of 2017 and 2018 lists of CCBC, Seventeen, and Publisher's Weekly. In February 2020 it was announced that a film adaptation written by Yulin Kuang is in development with A-Major Media, with Byung-hun Lee and Charles Pak as producers.
