Mateo Sušić


Mateo Sušić is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a right back for Romanian club CFR Cluj and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
Sušić started his professional career at Zrinjski Mostar, before joining Istra 1961 in 2010. Three years later, he moved to Energie Cottbus. The following year, he signed with CFR Cluj. A year later, he was transferred to Sheriff Tiraspol. In 2019, he went back to CFR Cluj.
A former youth international for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sušić made his senior international debut in 2016.

Club career

Early career

Sušić started playing football at local clubs, before joining youth academy of his hometown club Zrinjski Mostar in 2007. He made his professional debut in UEFA Europa League qualifier against Vaduz on 31 July 2008 at the age of 17.
In the summer of 2010, Sušić switched to Croatian club Istra 1961. On 30 October, he scored his first professional goal against Karlovac, which secured his team the victory.
In June 2013, he moved to German side Energie Cottbus.
On 4 June 2014, he signed a multi-year deal with Romanian team CFR Cluj.

Sheriff Tiraspol

In January 2015, Sušić joined Moldovan outfit Sheriff Tiraspol on a three-year contract. He made his official debut for the team against Zaria Bălți on 28 February. On 18 October, he netted his first goal for Sheriff Tiraspol away at Petrocub.
He became club captain in 2016.
Sušić won his first trophy with the club on 31 May 2016, when they were crowned league champions.
In January 2017, he left the team, but returned only a month later, signing a new three-year contract.
On 7 April 2018, Sušić played his 100th game for Sheriff Tiraspol against Speranța.

CFR Cluj

On 10 June 2019, Sušić was transferred back to CFR Cluj for an undisclosed fee. He made his competitive debut in UEFA Champions League qualifier against Astana on 9 July. Four days later, he made his league debut against Politehnica Iași. On 21 December, he scored his first goal for CFR Cluj against Voluntari.

International career

Sušić represented Bosnia and Herzegovina on various youth levels.
In March 2016, he received his first senior call-up, for friendly games against Luxembourg and Switzerland. Sušić debuted in a comfortable win over former on 25 March.
