María Pinto


María Pinto is a town and commune of the Melipilla Province in central Chile's Santiago Metropolitan Region.

Demographics

According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, María Pinto spans an area of and has 10,343 inhabitants. Of these, 1,654 lived in urban areas and 8,689 in rural areas. The population grew by 18.4% between the 1992 and 2002 censuses.

Administration

As a commune, María Pinto is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a municipal council, headed by an alcalde who is directly elected every four years. The 2012-2016 alcalde is Cesar Araos Aguirre, and his council members are:
Within the electoral divisions of Chile, María Pinto is represented in the Chamber of Deputies by Denise Pascal and Gonzalo Uriarte as part of the 31st electoral district,. The commune is represented in the Senate by Guido Girardi Lavín and Jovino Novoa Vásquez as part of the 7th senatorial constituency.
