María Jesús Matthei


María Jesús Matthei is a Chilean TV Host, model and beauty pageant titleholder. She participated the first time in 2011 in the Miss Chile competition, and placed 1st runner-up. A few months later, the organization selected her to represent the country in Reina Hispanoamericana, held in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. She won the 2nd most important title: Virreina Hispanoamericana 2011, she is the third Chilean woman who has won this title.
In 2013 she returned and won Miss Universo Chile 2013, gaining the right to represent Chile at Miss Universe 2013 where she was unplaced

Early life

At the age of 11 she left Chile and moved to Mexico City in 2004 due to her father's diplomatic job where they stayed for two years. In 2006, she was sent to do her first two years of high school to a traditional boarding-school in England where she also stayed for two years.
MJ's last two years of high school where spent in Miami. At the end of 2010 was when she returned to her home county Chile, this was when her modeling career started. In 2013 MJ started studying Fashion Design at University of the Pacific. MJ Matthei speaks 4 languages and is the niece of the Chilean presidential candidate, Evelyn Matthei, and granddaughter of General Fernando Matthei, member of Dictator Augusto Pinochet's military junta.

Career

Apart from the Miss Universo Chile title, at the beginning of 2014 she debuted in the TV business in Chile with the show A todo o nada in Mega where she was one of the models of the game-show. Around June 2014 she started working as a panelist in a Late Show called "El Show despues del Late" in VTR cable channel in Chile.

Miss Universo Chile 2013

In October 6, 2013, Matthei won the Miss Universo Chile 2013 pageant and she represented her country in Miss Universe 2013 in Moscow, Russia, and finished in 20th place. The winner was Gabriela Isler, from Venezuela.

MasterChef Chile

In October 2014, Matthei participated in the reality show casting MasterChef Chile. Initially she was chosen, but brought opposition from the audience, being dismissed from the show in the very first episode.
