Makhdumpur is a town and notified area in the Indian state of Bihar.

Demographics

According to the 2011 India census, Makhdumpur had a population of 260,154. Males constituted 134,863 of the population and females 125,291. Makhdumpur had an average literacy rate of 64.26 percent—higher than the national average of 59.5 percent—with male literacy at 86 percent and female literacy at 68 percent but nowadays there has been increase in schools and education in this area. In 2011. 18 percent of the population was under 6. 93.18% population is of Hindu and 6.57% Muslim lives in Makhdumpur.

Geography

It is situated between Gaya and Jehanabad in the Jehanabad district. It is about 60 km from Patna and 30 km from Gaya.
A river called Jamuna flows through the area but it is of almost no use as it is not suitable for agriculture.
A river called Dardha flows from the city. Approx 4 km south from the main city.
Barabar Caves is one of the most visited place in Makhdumpur. It is 11 km far from main city. It contains lord shiva temple & caves that build 320 - 230 BC by the King Ashoka. One of the oldest man made cave in India.
