Macleay Vocational College


Macleay Vocational College, the concept developed in 1999. After a year long survey of student absenteeism from the three local high schools it was decided that 300 children a day not attending high school was worth investigating and actioning. It was funded and supported by the local business community and parents. The Macleay Valley Workplace Learning Centre Inc., is a not-for-profit Registered Training Organisation highly decorated in Vocational Education and initially the primary funding source of the school Macleay Vocational College, a secondary school for years 9 - 12, in South Kempsey, New South Wales. Jann Eason was the founder, and the first Principal of the school from 1999 - 2012. Mark Morrison is the current Principal. The school offers an alternate education for students who have experienced difficulties at previous schools. ABC News described it as an institution for "last chance" individuals.

History

In 1991 it was envisaged and in the year 2000 it was accredited. Mark Morrison was invited, and became the Principal in 2012, and at the time the school had about 90 students. In 2019 it had about 115 students. Two schools, Newington College and Queenwood School, regularly assist Macleay through cash donations.

Facilities

The school has a creche which served as a library until Morrison ordered its conversion circa 2012.
