Luiz Ejlli


Luiz Ejlli is an Albanian singer. He is best known for representing Albania at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, after winning the 44th edition of Festivali i Këngës.

Life

Luiz Ejlli was born in Shkodra. Between 1991 and 2002, he attended the "Prenk Jakova" secondary school in his hometown. In 1995, he won the Best Voice Prize in "Child National Festival". In 1998, he participated as a soloist in the "Gold Repertoire Chorus". In 1999, he was a tenor soloist in "Prenk Jakova" polyphonic chorus.
Luiz came to fame in Albania when he participated and won the Albanian version of Idol in Tirana. After his win, he participated in the 43rd Albanian TV Music Festival, Festivali i Këngës, which also acts as the Albanian preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest. He ended in second place with the song "Hëna Dhe Yjet Dashurojnë". Luiz participated in the Eurovision selection once again in 2005 and won with the song "Zjarr e ftohtë", which represented Albania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, but failed to make it past the semi-final stage.
Ejlli was the first male contestant to represent Albania and the first with a song in Albanian. Ejlli was employed as a cultural attaché at Albanian embassy in Paris.
