Lucky Man Cree Nation

Lucky Man Cree Nation is a Cree First Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada. The reserve is located at Lucky Man, on the eastern border of the Rural Municipality of Meeting Lake No. 466. Re-established in 1989 after spending more than a hundred years amalgamated into the Little Pine First Nation, Lucky Man has the smallest membership in Treaty 6.

Etymology

The nation is named for Chief Papaway, papewe meaning "lucky man", headman for Little Pine when that group signed Treaty 6 at Fort Walsh in 1879. Lucky Man became chief in his own right, but was deposed by the government in the early 1880s. The band shared the Little Pine reserve before receiving its own land in the 1990s.
