Louwrien Wijers

Louwrien Wijers is a Dutch artist and writer living Amsterdam and St Anna Paulowna. She was involved with the Fluxus art movement and worked with Joseph Beuys from 1968 through 1986. Like Beuys, she considers writing and speaking as sculpture. She makes what she calls "mental sculpture" as well as material sculpture. She has also worked as an art critic for a number of publications.
In 1990, she organized the series of conversations 'Art meets Science and Spirituality in a changing Economy' at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, which brought together scientists, economists, thinkers, and artists with guests such the Dalai Lama, Robert Rauschenberg, John Cage, J.C.J. Vanderheyden, Mother Tessa Bielecki, Lawrence Weiner, Marina Abramovic and David Bohm. In 1992, she published Writing as Sculpture, a collection of her interviews.
