Lo Prado


Lo Prado is one of the poorest communes of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region.

Demographics

According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Lo Prado spans an area of and has 104,316 inhabitants, making the commune an entirely urban area. The population fell by 6% between the 1992 and 2002 censuses. Its 2006 projected population was 98,983.

As a commune, Lo Prado is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a municipal council, headed by an alcalde who is directly elected every four years. The 2012-2016 alcalde is Gonzalo Navarrete Muñoz. The communal council has the following members:
Within the electoral divisions of Chile, Lo Prado is represented in the Chamber of Deputies by Nicolás Monckeberg and Cristina Girardi as part of the 18th electoral district,. The commune is represented in the Senate by Guido Girardi Lavín and Jovino Novoa Vásquez as part of the 7th senatorial constituency.
