It is native to southern Japan, Taiwan, the Ryukyu Islands, southeastern China and Hainan. It is also reportedly naturalized in South Africa, Mauritius, Réunion, the Andaman Islands, Java, New Caledonia, Micronesia, Hawaii, Florida, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
