Currently the Belgian crown recognizes the titles of jonkheer, knight, baron, viscount, count, duke and prince. The persons who legally are member of the nobility have the legal right to protect their family name and crest.The houses bearing the titles of prince and duke are described more thoroughly on the Belgian nobility page.
Noble houses that have died out are mentioned with a or can be found at the end. Lots of historical families have been described an studied in the 18th and 19th century, these studies still give an accurate impression of the Nobility in Flanders and Brabant, ancestors of the majority of the current houses.
