Levi Sterling


Levi Sterling was an American politician, soldier, and public official.

Biography

Born in Woodford County, Kentucky, to Harvey and Elizabeth Harper Sterling, he moved to Galena, Illinois and then to Mineral Point, then part of the Michigan Territory.
He served in several public offices in Michigan Territory and later Wisconsin Territory. He served in the Black Hawk War in 1836. In 1838, Sterling served in the Wisconsin Territorial Council of the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature. From 1850 to 1854, Sterling served in the Wisconsin State Senate. During the American Civil War, Sterling served in the 2nd Regiment Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry.
Sterling died of inflammation of the lungs and pleurisy at his home near Mineral Point.
