Laura Dudas


Laura Dudas, née Czekaj is a Canadian politician. She was elected to Ottawa City Council representing Innes Ward in the 2018 Ottawa municipal election.
Dudas grew up in Kitchener, Ontario, the daughter of a Richard, a welder and Linda Czekaj, a Sears employee.
Dudas was a journalist working in Cambridge for the Cambridge Reporter and Stratford, Ontario before working at the Ottawa Sun from 2002 to 2010. Following her journalism career, she worked for the City of Ottawa as a communications official. She also served as the President of the Blackburn Community Association and served on the Orléans Chamber of Commerce. She and her family moved to Blackburn Hamlet in 2006.
Dudas first ran for council in the 2014 Ottawa municipal election, but lost to Jody Mitic. When Mitic retired, Dudas ran again in 2018, and won 41% of the vote, defeating her nearest rival, Donna Leith-Gudbranson by nearly 1700 votes.
Dudas, along with George Darouze and Matthew Luloff was appointed as a deputy mayor of the city in December 2018.
